The GOP wants to get the Affordable Care Act repealed and replaced, but they’re still not happy about it.
In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Monday, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) said he has “no doubt” that the GOP’s ObamaCare replacement plan would end up being a “basket of deplorables.”
“The only people who really would be able to afford it are the very, very wealthy,” Ryan said, when asked about the idea of repealing and replacing the law.
Ryan’s comment comes after a Washington Post report on Thursday said that the Trump administration was considering cutting off funding to states that did not sign up for the Affordable Health Care Act’s Medicaid expansion.
The Republican-led House is set to vote this week on a bill that would eliminate federal funding for the program, as well as to allow states to opt out of expanding Medicaid, which would be a massive blow to millions of Americans.
