Best Buy, Target and Lowes are among the top 10 most popular retailers for online shoppers in terms of the percentage of their customers who use their sites for shopping.
But in the first six months of this year, there were some notable differences.
According to data from data firm eMarketer, there are now more than 1.3 billion online shoppers who used Amazon.com, which means there are more than 6.5 million people in the U.S. who shopped there in the past six months, according to eMarker.
That’s up from about 1.4 million people a year ago.
The biggest difference between Amazon and its competitors was the percentage who used Lowes promotions, which accounted for a whopping 40 percent of Amazon’s online shoppers during that time.
The retailer has a 30 percent discount, but lowes promotions are not offered on Amazon Prime.
And while Target has a discount offer, it’s only available for those who use a credit card to shop.
In its earnings call on Monday, Amazon’s CFO J.P. Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter noted that Amazon had a lot of “significant discounts” and said, “We see significant demand for those.”
Lowes also has a very large online retail business, with nearly $1.3 trillion in annual sales.
The company says it will spend more than $100 billion this year on its online retail, which is more than double the $80 billion spent in 2013.
For some, the Amazon comparison isn’t fair, especially since the company has recently begun to cut back on its discounting efforts.
On Monday, Lowe’s announced that it was discontinuing its discount program for customers who buy at least one item through its online store.
Lowe’s did not provide details about how many items were purchased through the discount program, but it did say that customers who purchased less than $200 would not receive the discount.
Lowes said it is also cutting back on the discounts offered to customers who are interested in other retailers.
For example, it is eliminating the lowes coupon code for Amazon Prime members, and has stopped offering its online discount coupons for shoppers who pay their bill in full each month.
Lowed said it also is eliminating its lowes coupons for people who use credit cards to buy products online, including online purchases from Best Buy.
