TechCrunch, July 14, 2018 — The codes used by Costco and Starbucks are set to expire in 2020 and 2021, respectively, according to the company’s promotional codes program.
The codes are the primary revenue streams for the discount retailer and the primary way in which customers are rewarded for shopping through the discount chain.
The expiration dates for the Costco codes have not been announced.
For the first time, Costco’s and Starbucks promotional codes will be rolled out to customers and customers can redeem codes from any Costco or Starbucks location, Costco spokeswoman Amanda Eppen told TechCrunch in a statement.
“The codes will remain active, but the dates will no longer be available for redemption,” Eppn said.
Costco, which has a total of 7 million stores worldwide, is one of the fastest growing online retailers.
It launched in December, 2012, and in March, it surpassed 500 million online orders for the first and only time.
In a post on its blog, Costco said it will continue to roll out the Costco code redemption program to all Costco and Sears stores worldwide.
It’s not clear how many codes will expire or how many customers will receive them.
There are two ways to redeem the code: online or in-store, and both offer a 20% discount on the purchase price of the product, Costco told TechCulture.
Costco’s promotional code redemption programs, launched in 2016 and 2017, are still active.
This post was updated at 3:04 p.m. to reflect that a new Starbucks code will be added to the program in 2020.
